Since President Steven Leath was hired at ISU in 2012, Flight Services department expenses jumped from $393,783 in the 2012 budget year to $880,584 in 2016. Fuel costs climbed from $86,537 to $148,949.
Iowa State University President Steven Leath announced the Cirrus SR22, damaged in a past trip, will be sold. He has paid 19113 to the ISU Foundation for use of Cirrus and a Beechcraft King Air 350, and the board weighs Flight Services’ future amid audit findings and policy reviews.
Nearly all of the 76 trips connected to a Cirrus aircraft bought in 2014 involved Leath. Of those trips, 52 were for his proficiency training or certification in the plane.
The audit shows ISU planes or other resources funded three medical trips since 2013 to transport Leath to Rochester Minnesota for appointments. The board says the audit settles concerns about President Leath’s aircraft use. Bruce Rastetter, Board of Regents president, is quoted.
