Budget may delay tax break
A tight state budget may force Iowa lawmakers to delay future tax relief even if Republicans prevail in vetoing a $310 million income tax cut. Sen. Larry McKibben said tax cuts may be revisited in 2004, with lower taxes unlikely before fiscal 2006 due to flat revenues. The GOP plans to seek an expedited Supreme Court ruling on line item veto powers, a decision not expected during the 2004 session.
