John L. Collett, 32, of Fremont, pleaded guilty to second degree murder in the beating death of 72 year old Carl F. Wiedemeier during a robbery at his Ladora farmhouse. The plea, in Linn County District Court, reduced the original first degree murder and robbery charges in exchange for testimony against co‑defendants. Collett's sentencing is set for February 4. he remains in Johnson County Jail.
