Iowa forecast shows cloudy and warm with winds 30 to 40 mph and a high around 30 Tuesday with much colder air and light snow flurries in the northwest. It lists daily temps, precipitation totals, wind at Municipal airport, sunrise and sunset times, and multiple local birth notices plus traffic fines and public-service updates.
Cedar Rapids city council postponed a decision on a preliminary plat for Votru bek's addition due to fire truck turn around and hydrant access concerns on Kathryn street. Fire and building officials will report back before action. The council approved a preliminary plat for Downing's first addition and denied a preliminary lot in Glenbrook Cove.
The city council approved a R-2 zoning proposal for Adams at Sixth Street SW and between Fifth and Sixth avenues. It also changed 16 Fortieth Street Mt. Vernon Road SE lots from R-1 to R-2 for Carlton Smith. The annexation request for 172 acres north of Blairs Ferry Road NE was referred to the city board of health to assess septic and city responsibility issues.
Cedar Rapids police quote Detective Jim Shannon as Iowa City youths confessed to stealing from 13 cars. Value approached 3577 dollars with items including two Thermo Fax machines, a Brson engine writer, record players, a camera, a 12 gauge pump gun, tools, a briefcase of slips, a tire, three wristwatches, a shotgun, safety belts, and a lantern. Some owners have claimed items. four unclaimed pieces total 62 dollars.
A Cedar Rapids youth, James H. Kerr, was fined $100 for reckless driving and $25 for leaving the scene after a citizen arrest by La Verne Zaehringer and cab driver Walter Vajert. Kerr's arrest followed a collision with a parked car on First Avenue SE. Another case: Lyle Casteel of Marion forfeited $105 bond for alleged reckless driving near Mt Vernon Road and Thirtyeth Street SE.

Orville F. Trimble aged 48 received an indeterminate sentence not to exceed three years in Fort Madison for theft of five sport shirts from Montgomery Ward in Cedar Rapids. Charged as a daytime larceny and as a fourth offender, he pled guilty before Judge Floyd Philbrick and sought immediate sentencing. A prior information for plain larceny was dismissed.

Two appeals were filed Monday in Linn County district court challenging condemnation awards under Iowa Highway Commission project F-909 the relocation of Highway 218 south of Cedar Rapids. Frank L. and Emma Modracek seek to overturn a $1,852 land award against the Iowa Highway Commission and the State of Iowa. Ernest E. and Darlene Trachta challenge a $2,603 award, naming the Highway Commission the State of Iowa Linn County and Sheriff James Smith as defendants, claiming the amount is grossly inadequate.
Deputy Tucker said two teen suspects Donovan Schoeberl and Gerald Schoeberl, both of Walker, admitted stealing hubcaps and fender skirts. Police recovered 30 to 40 hubcaps and two pairs of fender skirts believed to be the total taken by five youths.

His body will be sent to Charles City for burial. he is survived by parents Mr and Mrs Chris M Knutson a sister Mrs Milo Savel and a brother Paul of Charles.
Frank J Noseka 71 of Center Point route one died at 1 35 am Sunday in a Cedar Rapids hospital after a short illness He was born December 24 1883 in Johnson county and farmed all his life Surviving are his wife Callie and a daughter six grandchildren and several stepchildren etc Funeral services will be at Brush chapel at 1 30 pm Wednesday by Theodore B Hlubacek Burial in Czech National cemetery Friends may call after 7 pm Monday
Ethel Gertrude Moore 73 died at home after a long illness. Born November 24, 1882 in Harrison county she had lived in Cedar Rapids seventy years. Survived by husband George W. Moore four daughters a sister three brothers seven grandchildren nine great grandchildren. Funeral 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Barta Hesser chapel. Burial Rogers Grove cemetery. Friends may call after 4 p.m.
Funeral services for Mrs John Galleger aged 1015 Daniels Street NE will be conducted at 9 a.m. Tuesday in St Patrick's church by the Rt. Rev. Msgr. D J Lenihan. A rosary will be recited at 7 30 p.m. Monday at the chapel by Msgr Lenihan. Burial will follow in Cedar Memorial Teahen chapel.

Cedar Rapids Public Improvements Commissioner W. W. Stolba outlined a rubber pad rail crossing system to reduce maintenance and improve safety. The proposal, based on Goodyear material, would add rubber pads to ties and allow easy removal or reuse, with water tight seals and ice resistance. Further study and intercity rail cooperation were urged, with no cost data yet available.
The Rev. Otto F. Artopoeus resigns as Cedar Rapids First Evangelical and Reformed Church pastor effective Jan 31 and will take a new post as pastor of First Evangelical and Reformed in West Alexandria Ohio. He remains secretary treasurer of the local Ministerial Association. Artopoeus came to Cedar Rapids in 1953 after missions work in Central India and is a Marion Ohio native educated at Heidelberg College Eden Theological Seminary and Kennedy School of Missions.
