At Maxwell Field Montgomery two pilots Capt Audrey Ballard of the U S A and First Lieut Richardo Castenada of the Mexican army were killed instantly when their small attack planes collided shortly after takeoff during a tactical formation drill. Ballard, a war veteran, led the formation and turned back after takeoff. Castenada followed and collided head on. Ballard's craft burned in the crash while Castenada’s did not, crushing him. Ballard hailed from Arkansas and Castenada from Mexico City.
Vienna AP reports the government moves to crush threats to its regime. Linz authorities jail 150 communists amid raids and arrests. Leader Lidolin Schroepfer, ex vice mayor of Badischl, faces charges of spreading communist propaganda.
The Iowa Supreme Court declared unconstitutional the 1933 Salary Reduction Act cutting city county and state officers salaries. The Public Works Administration announced a third low cost housing and slum clearance program for Chicago to be built on the north side at an estimated cost of 12.5 million dollars.
