Snow emergency in Cedar Rapids and Iowa City area
Winter storm remnants produced whiteout conditions with up to 50 mph winds across the state. Two deaths were reported, including a Mason City man from a heart attack during snow removal and an elderly man in Yale stranded outside. Cedar Rapids and Iowa City declared residential snow emergencies with strict parking rules to aid plow efforts. Travel restrictions remained on I 80 and I 380, while road crews worked to open major routes and begin windrow removal downtown.
