New ICN names John Gillispie executive director
Iowa Telecommunications and Technology Commission selects John Gillispie of Tulsa Oklahoma as executive director of the states fiber optic network effective immediately from a nationwide search that began in August Gillispie formerly led infrastructure and data centers for Wiltel Communications in Tulsa He holds an MBA from Oklahoma State University and a BS in business data processing from Southwest Missouri State University The commission notes a transitional period and expects his vision to guide ICN after Harold Thompson and interim director Mike Bacino Gillispie replaces interim director Mike Bacino.

Iowa shotgun season claims two deer hunting fatalities
Opening weekend saw one hunter killed and another seriously injured in separate accidents across Iowa. Jeremy Koehn 21 of North English survived a head injury, while Rodney Schippers 44 of Bussey died when a slug struck him in Mahaska County. Additional injuries occurred near Brighton and in Monona County as other hunters were wounded or treated.
