Rural recycling saga grips Benton County supervisors
The Benton County supervisors press forward to end the voluntary recycling program on July 1 and ban recyclables from the county landfill beginning January 1, 2004. Rural residents and 3,200 households pose a funding and logistics challenge as cities take over recycling. Haulers urge alternatives like supervised collection points or curbside service while Country Mile disposal owner Marvin Moffitt backs private handling. The issue will be revisited at a future meeting.
