IMA challenges utility discount for elderly in Iowa
The Iowa Manufacturer's Association objects to Iowa Power and Light's proposed 10 percent discount for low income elderly customers as part of a 9.1 percent rate increase filed April 13 with the Iowa Commerce Commission. The group calls the plan a private welfare program funded by a regressive tax on all customers and urges the utility to cover the cost from profits or explore voluntary surtaxes instead.
