New license categories for recreational vehicles
Iowa 1980 license changes affect recreational vehicles including vans and motor homes. New flat rates replace depreciation, with Class A buses and high value motor homes charging $400 or $140 for ten years then $300 or $105, while Class B vans pay $90 for a decade and $65 after. Linn County treasurer Jim Hennessey notes shifts by age, weight, and classification, with some vehicles rising and others falling in cost. Public licensing moves to Courthouse South, 930 First St. SW, entering front doors.

Licensing fees for recreational vehicles rise in 1980

Older vehicles face higher long term costs, with examples showing a 1972 Class A motor home jumping from $35 to $140 first year and potentially reaching $1,050 over ten years versus $350 under the former system.
