Heavy Barn Fire Destroys Le Roy Pilgrim Farm Barn
A large barn on the Le Roy Pilgrim farm 11 miles northeast of Manchester burned, causing an estimated loss of 20 000 to 30 000. Robert Pilgrim milking when the blaze started around 1 pm as fire crews from Greeley Earlville Delaware and Manchester fought the flames. Firemen saved 40 head of cattle 73 bags and a bulk milk tank despite the 6 by 68 foot barn structure and scattered contents. The blaze is blamed on a defect wiring and remained smouldering with firefighters on standby.

Miller 21 Dies in Bettendorf House Fire
Bettendorf AP report: Richard Wayde Miller Jr., 21, died from suffocation in a three room frame house blaze. Deputy Sheriff Joh Cones said no immediate cause found. a mail carrier alerted authorities after noticing smoke and unable to wake Miller. He lived alone and was found on the floor.

Youth Fined $100 For Reckless Driving
Leslie D. Baych, 20, of Hiawatha was fined $100 and costs on a reckless driving charge. He was arrested at A avenue and Fifteenth street NE Friday at 10 p.m. Municipal Judge Howard McLaughlin imposed the fine.
