The Daily Record reports a mixed forecast for Minnesota Iowa and nearby areas with temperatures ranging from the mid teens to mid fifties and chances of light snow in northern zones. It lists police court fines a series of local incidents fires and a long batch of birth and death notices from multiple towns including Cedar Rapids Belle Plaine Monticello Elkader Vinton Tama Independence and Reseda California.
Deputy Larry Condon questioned ex convict Gwyn Howell, 33, held in Oskaloosa over a $100 Linn County break in. Howell, paroled last April for breaking and entering, is linked to at least five Linn and Johnson county Sunday farm burglaries where a rifle man posed as a hunter to enter homes and steal valuables. Meanwhile five similar breakins have been reported in Johnson County.
North west Cedar Rapids residents petitioned the city council for aid to locate the source of electrical interference that worsens television reception. Seventy six signers asked the council to arrange repairs or preventive measures. The Safety Commissioner referred the complaint to the Iowa Electric Light and Power Company for an answer.
An eight member committee urged Republicans and Southern Democrats to form a formal alliance to halt socialism, urging Southern Democrats to back the Republican candidate to prevent Truman's reelection or another Democrat with Fair Deal views. Albert Lee Graves 36 of Allison hotel was fined 300 dollars and costs after pleading guilty to drunk driving following a Saturday night accident at Second avenue and Third street SE. Ernest Charles Burdick 31 faced trial Monday for the same offense after an May 30 arrest linked to an accident at Sixth street and Twenty first avenue SW. A jury was sworn to hear Burdick’s case with prosecutors Richard Nazette and Donald Smith and defense attorneys W. L. Fahey and Wilmer Cimprich.

Three people injured when their car slid on icy pavement and went off a viaduct on highway 218 south of Cedar Rapids. Earl Christiansen 22 Jane Christiansen 20 and Joseph Machovec 20 were treated at St Luke's hospital. Christiansen and Jane Christiansen admitted in fair condition. Machovec released after emergency care.
Health official reports improved conditions at Cedar Rapids city dump with smoke nearly gone and outlines for further fixes. Auditor compares costs between incinerator use and sanitary landfill, showing a $32,221.18 annual excess to resume incineration, plus a potential 37 cent per $1000 tax rise.

AP reports two Americans died in Red China in recent months. Philip Cline, elderly retiree, died at Tsingtao after release from a Red jail. He was among 32 Americans reportedly imprisoned by Red China. Dr. W L Wallace, Baptist missionary not on Knowland’s list, died in jail last spring with no explanation.
Prudential Insurance agents in Cedar Rapids returned to work Monday after a strike lasting over a week. Other city agents across the country reportedly continued walking out seeking higher base pay.

Eighteen cases of reportable diseases were recorded in Cedar Rapids during November. Assistant Health Officer Carl D. Smith told the city council that mumps led with eight cases, chicken pox had seven, measles two, and whooping cough one. November saw 76 deaths, split 44 males and 32 females.
