Cedar Rapids The Jefferson High School cheer squad will perform at the TaxSlayer Bowl halftime in Jacksonville on January 2 as part of a national lineup. Twenty two students from 10th to 12th grade join dance and drill teams after being invited by WorldStrides OnStage, with prior bowl appearances in Memphis and San Antonio cited by coach Sherren Huston. Bethannie Fox, an 18 year old senior, expresses excitement about collaborating with choreographers and performing at her first bowl game.
The Jefferson cheer team practices dance and stunts to be prepared for the TaxSlayer Bowl. They depart on December 29 and will host an all day cheer clinic with professionals during their trip.
Linda Betsinger McCann will discuss her book Prohibition in Eastern Iowa at 7 p.m. Thursday in the downtown library and take audience questions. The event invites readers to explore local history and share insights with the author.
The Iowa City Public Library closes Friday for staff training with seven employees honored and three guest speakers. Regular hours resume Saturday at 10 am. Also, Preucil School of Music hosts holiday performances at 5 30 pm Friday and December 18 at Coral Ridge Mall featuring viola cello and violin students.
The National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium hosts a Saturday 7 p.m. screening of Mysteries of the Driftless. Executive producers Tim Jacobson and George Howe will attend to discuss the Emmy winning film shot in northeast Iowa southwest Wisconsin and southeast Minnesota.
