Thomas Gates, 51, recalls surgery complications when a major infection left him near death. He describes an out of body episode in a realm of creation guided by four beings, a tunnel toward a golden light, and a return to a changed, painful body before recovery and later openness to sharing his experience.
Dr. Jeff Long will speak at the December 23 meeting about near-death experiences. A Iowa City native and radiation oncologist, Long runs the Near Death Research Foundation site where people share experiences. He rejects sensational books and emphasizes noncommercial, firsthand accounts. Contact Gigi Wood at 319 93161 for more details.
