Five lives were lost when the United airliner wrecked off Port Reyes. pilot Charles B. Stead testified that the craft likely passed directly over Oakland, its supposed destination, while pilots navigated through heavy clouds. He said they followed the Oakland radio beam northwest out to sea, missing the ground beneath due to distraction and the cone of silence over the airport.
In Oradell New Jersey a dramatic police search spread from a missing Illinois license plate. Mrs Wardell told officers she and her husband found the plate and did not report it. FBI state police and local officers converged at the Wardell home and nearby theaterless car amid the chase.
A letter containing a loaded 22 caliber cartridge and a reversed swastika signature threatened Mayor Fiorello LaGuardia’s life amid a rally against oppression at Carnegie Hall. It was postmarked Long Island City and analyzed by police and post office inspectors. The mayor described the threat as serious and publicized it. The rally drew support from over thirty organizations with notable speakers including Henry A. Wallace and Monsignor Fulton J Sheen.

He said the act requires a living wage for workers but allows gradual adjustments for some industries, and that voluntary action cannot erase sweatshop abuses due to a delinquent minority.
Cedar Ranida News reports department manager Thomas Robinson 70 injured when hit by a car driven by M J Frankel in Cedar Ranida. The incident occurred on Fifth avenue near Twelfth street SE as Robinson crossed after alighting from a bus. He sustained a fractured right leg and head laceration. moved to Mercy hospital and is described in fairly good condition.
Washington expects Alfred P. Sloan Jr of General Motors to urge a broad tax cut for business at a senate finance subcommittee. He argues lower general taxes would reduce prices, boost productivity, expand existing units and fuel new product development, raising living standards and employment.

At San Quentin California two inmates Fred Barnes 39 and Wesley E Eady 34 died in the new lethal gas chamber after being convicted of murdering Clarence Larkin the Folsom warden. Barnes a southwest desperado with nineteen years of criminal activity and Eady who turned to crime after leaving the U S navy died from hydrocyanic fumes.
Baxter Parnell, 32, farmer, dies by gas at a Raleigh prison after being convicted of the ice pick murder of his sister in law Janie Fink. He had repudiated his trial story that he acted while hexed by a root chewed on advice of a witch doctor.
