Waste to glass plan for Hanford tanks
The U S government aims to stabilize 56 million gallons of radioactive waste at the Hanford site in Washington by vitrifying it into glass. The process filters out solids with 95 percent of radioactivity and diverts lower activity liquid, then silica and chemicals are added and the mix is sent to melters.
