Liquid oxygen escaped into the air after a three vehicle crash on icy Interstate 80 near Oxford on Thursday. The incident shut seven miles of the highway for hours and sent one person to the hospital. Firefighters were kept warm by a school bus on scene. A cold, messy commute persisted.

Maytag Corp Chief Executive Leonard Hadley announced that plans to relocate the corporate headquarters are on hold and the company will remain in Newton where about 3,500 manufacturing staff work. Hadley, back to lead Maytag on an interim basis after Lloyd Ward’s resignation, said the move would affect roughly 100 positions and could hurt the state psychologically. He added that future leadership might choose a different location if business needs change. Maytag employs about 24,000 people across 17 plants in North America and China.
Polk County District Judge Glenn Pille ruled Gov. Tom Vilsack exceeded his constitutional authority by issuing an executive order expanding anti discrimination protections to include gender identity sexual orientation and marital status. The decision, backing 23 Republican lawmakers and state employees, said the governor created law beyond legislative powers and violated separation of powers.
