Parity resolution aims to favor farmers without hard action
Rep. Thomas Foley introduced a House resolution urging parity prices for farmers marking Congress support as the goal of American agriculture. The measure would not mandate specific enforcement. Agriculture outlook in 1978 suggests modest gains for cattle with hog prices lower due to higher production. Livestock economists project Omaha steer prices near 40 per cwt mid year, hogs 5 to 6 dollars below last year. In Pendleton an antistrike leader said a six week campaign could lift farm prices. In Minneapolis a Minnesota official said agriculture exchange talks with Cuba have begun with Castro open to a broader program.
