Protests Split Violence Commission on Civil Disobedience
A narrow majority of the National Violence Commission says civil disobedience could trigger anarchy if patterns of the 1960s civil rights movement continue. The all white majority urges testing laws by small groups or individuals while others obey until declared constitutional. The minority, including two Black members, argues nonviolent disobedience can test laws and dramatize objection.

Sheriff Lacking Information on SMH Gillman Critique
Des Moines Iowa United Press International James Gillman commissioner of the department of social services told the Iowa executive council Monday that criticism of the security at Oakdale Hospital stemmed from a total lack of information. He said Johnson County Sheriff Maynard Schneider had not visited Oakdale and had declined invitations to see how the facility operates. Gillman defended current protections noting guards and outside activity are allowed and announced additional security steps including barred windows guard towers bids to be let soon and a radar device along the inside fence that triggers a master board alert.

Elberon Man's Suit Returns To State Court
Dennis Mikoda, an Elberon resident, filed a half million dollar damage suit over a motorcycle crash. Federal Judge McManus remanded the case to Linn district court and ordered American Oil Co. to pay removal costs. Plaintiffs include Eichmeyer's Standard Service, Bruce Eichmeyer, David Ballstedt Jr., and American Honda Motor Inc. The incident occurred Aug 7, 1966 west of Palo. Mikoda, who was a minor then, was riding the rented motorcycle and paralyzed from the chest down. He became 21 on Oct 30, 1968. The suit alleges negligence for failing to warn of the cycle's dangerous propensities and for inadequate usage directions.
