A blaze of unknown origin leveled the Hawkeye Lumber millwork building and its adjoining warehouse, causing extensive damage to facilities and probable losses of machinery and stock. No injuries reported as firefighters battled the flames through the night.

Two Motorists Fined for Driving While Intoxicated in District Court
J M O Rourke of 521 Seventh Avenue SE and Stanley H Johnson of Fairfax pled guilty before Judge John T Moffit to operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. Johnson arrested by highway patrol after a chase near Cedar Rapids on Highway 149. Johnson paid $50 and will pay $25 monthly until the remaining fine. Airports Put Under Guard and Licenses Suspended
