Iowa City murder trial hinges on ammo loading video evidence

Iowa City police testified that cellphone and camera data traced Renard Winfield Jr. to the 2021 slaying of Tommy Curry. A video Winfield made shows him loading high quality 9 mm ammo into a handgun before the April 28 2021 shooting at Meadow Lark Apartments. Evidence includes texts, emails, and Google data linking Winfield to fake personas and online dating with Curry. The trial continues with prosecutors detailing surveillance and store receipts from Scheels in Coralville.

Fire crews respond to Cherry Building blaze in Cedar Rapids

Cedar Rapids Fire Department responded to a 8:44 a.m. fire at the Cherry Building on 10th Ave SE near NewBo Market. A sprinkler adjacent to a pottery kiln activated due to heat from the kiln chimney. firefighters cooled the kiln while shutting the sprinkler. Overheating under control by 9:28 a.m. No injuries reported.
