Survey boosts Iowa passenger rail expansion support

A SMART Transportation Division survey shows 56 percent of respondents respald passenger rail growth in Iowa and 77 percent favor Amtrak service from Des Moines to Chicago. The poll, conducted in Iowa 1st District, also finds strong backing for two person crews and positive train control. It notes cost concerns and ongoing feasibility studies for Des Moines Chicago and Cedar Rapids Iowa City Amtrak lines.
