Radio wave procedure first in Iowa fights heart arrhythmia
Waldemar Sandersfeld, 68, became the first Iowan patient treated with catheter ablation at University Hospitals. Doctors delivered targeted radio frequency through a catheter to destroy arrhythmia tissue causing ventricular tachycardia, offering a non surgical alternative with no anesthesia or blood pressure changes. Sandersfeld had severe heart and lung disease and multiple heart attacks, and his family expressed relief at the potential to return home soon.
