President Eisenhower flies to New York for a major address to the nation amid hydrogen bomb fears. With Churchill and French leaders backing the Big Three, he urges a joint plan for disarmament and atomic control to avert a world peril.
President Eisenhower's address to the United Nations General Assembly will be televised in Eastern Iowa on KCRI channel 9 and WMT channel 2 at 3 p.m. Tuesday. KCRI will also broadcast the address on radio at the same time, while WMT plans a 10 30 p.m. rebroadcast.
The General Assembly plans a fresh approach to the seven year Soviet Western atomic deadlock with a speech titled Perils that Confront the World in This Atomic Age. Eisenhower and Churchill draft a note for a Big Four meeting in Berlin while Nato allies seek German rearmament and Saar Basin compromise.
