Federal prosecutors seek a stiffer sentence for Abdulaziz Bah 39 of Guinea for leading an international travel visa document scheme that defrauded the U.S. government and threatened national security. Bah arrested in Cedar Rapids in June 2004. sentencing to resume before Christmas with potential 25 year maximum.

Rural Iowa couple face animal neglect charges after seizure
Olin Andrews and Wendy Andrews of Palo a rural Cedar Rapids area face 18 misdemeanor counts of animal neglect or cruelty. A six woman eight man jury was seated in Linn County District Court as witnesses will describe ongoing neglect including 61 horses cats dogs and other animals seized in a March raid. If convicted they face jail up to a year and fines up to 1500 per serious charge plus up to 30 days and fine per simple charge.

North Liberty runoff delays as two judges decline
Mayor-elect Dave Franker and council member-elect Jim Wozniak criticized candidates Matt Bahl and Rob Gardiner after they rejected two retired judges L Vern Robinson and Mary Weideman from serving on runoff panels. Darren Bartha, 19, of Ryan, died after a Monday morning crash in Delaware County. He rode with Christina Bartha, 18, whose northbound car crossed the center line at highways 13 and 20, colliding with Linda Matthiesen's sport utility vehicle. Randy Schenkel, 32, of Tipton, died in a forklift accident at Industrial Packaging Corp in Wilton. Police say he was pronounced dead Friday morning and authorities continue to investigate with the Muscatine County medical examiners and the Iowa Division of Labor Services.
