Cedar Rapids prepares for the Fire & Ice Festival at Greene Square, the former Greene Square Park renovated at nearly 2 million dollars. Parks director Sven Leff said fencing is down and final spring work includes a 200000 dollar sculpture. At a Prairie Meadows forum in Altoona, Democratic and Republican leaders said limited state revenue blocks tax policy changes in the upcoming session. They noted a projected $175 million revenue gain next year will be consumed by Medicaid, property relief, and a teacher program, keeping tax cuts unlikely. Governor Branstad defended the Medicaid transition as deliberate and necessary despite concerns.
