No-till farming shown to boost soil health and yields
Iowa farmers hear from experts led by Dave Brandt of Carroll about no-till cultivation and cover crops raising organic matter from 0.5% to 7.5% over 43 years. NRCS scientist Jay Fuhrer and others say minimal disturbance, rotations, and living roots build soil, cut erosion, and improve water quality, with Brandt citing 174 bushels per acre in a 2012 drought.
