Tax Cuts Plan Targets State Share of School Aid
Republican leaders unveil a property tax cut package to raise the state share of the school aid formula from 87.5 to 91.25 percent, saving property taxpayers at least 80 million dollars annually and funding about 19 million for a special education deficit. The plan aims to send the proposal to committee after the session begins as education remains the centerpiece of the 1999 Iowa Legislature.
