Senator Ted Stevens survived serious injuries after a Lear jet crashed at Anchorage International Airport. Five others including Stevens's wife Ann died. one passenger survived. The aircraft owned by Inlet Marine Inc. broke apart. National Transportation Safety Board teams investigated.

Searchers reached the Buffalo Pass wreck of the Rocky Mountain Airways twin engine plane as 22 aboard faced a northern Colorado blizzard. One passenger was dead, 15 injured, six with minor injuries. survivors were brought to Kremmling Hospital after about four hours.
FBI Director William Webster announced the dismissal of two supervisors and discipline for two other agents over illegal break ins wiretaps and mail openings in the 1970s hunt for Weather Underground members. He will not act against 58 others and pledged reforms to prevent future abuses.
