Court House News: Merriam denies note responsibility in suit
In a Tuesday answer to a 1750 dollar suit, D S Merriam claims he bore no obligation for a 29562.50 note to Monticello State Bank dated November 5 1938. He says the note was an accommodation at Nehls and Anderson's request and was to be paid by them. Anderson paid half of 3168.56 due last August but was obliged to pay the rest when Nehls failed to. Nehls says Merriam helped organize Mid-America Casualty Insurance of Cedar Rapids and says Merriam bought stock with the note, a claim he says Merriam subscribed for.
