Ukraine Supreme Court orders December 26 presidential rerun

Ukraine's Supreme Court ruled the November 21 runoff elections were illegally interfered with and ordered a new head to head vote between Viktor Yushchenko and Viktor Yanukovych on December 26. The decision sparked massive pro Yushchenko demonstrations in Kiev while eastern Ukraine voiced anger. The ruling challenged President Kuchma and Putin and aimed to curb election fraud ahead of the new ballot. Parliament planned quick election law changes to prevent similar fraud.
