Dubuque Fire Chief Car Damaged in Crash
The Dubuque fire chief’s car was badly damaged in a two car collision while responding to an alarm. The chief’s car sustained about 1500 dollars in damage. Orvin Glesne, 43, of Dubuque, was charged with failure to yield to an emergency vehicle. Capt. Harold Cosgrove and Fireman Carl Winter were in the chief’s car. Cosgrove had minor injuries while Winter was unhurt. The alarm was due to an overheated furnace.

The H. Weselmann and Sons meat market in Calmar was sold Monday to Lester Numedahl, who has worked there for ten years and will take immediate possession. The market, founded in 1891 by Henry Weselmann, has been run by the Weselmann family for over 50 years. Henry died in 1944, his son Ralph recently died, and Alvin will keep farming nearby.

Undertaker Dies at Wheel of Ambulance in Chariton
Harold Blackman 49 Chariton undertaker died of a heart attack while driving an ambulance toward a fatal crash on Highway 34 two miles west of Chariton. His vehicle struck a building two blocks from his shop. Taxi driver Paul Knight 40 also died in the highway crash when his cab collided with a truck driven by Harold Morrow of Murray. Both wrecks caught fire. the taxi was moved away but the truck was destroyed.
