Cedar Rapids selects backyard spruce for city Christmas tree
The Postma family’s blue spruce, moved Monday and chosen for its height and fullness, will illuminate Cedar Rapids as the city’s official Christmas tree this weekend. The family, planning a pool, sees the tree as a second life for a tree that stood in their yard. Arborist Todd Fagan notes the donation process includes backups and favors trees with strong shape and priority.

Iowa sees shift to more early voting in 2024
Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate described the 74.1 percent early voting turnout as impressive and significant while noting a slight drop from 2020. Republicans edged Democrats in early votes, with 268,899 GOPs and 257,634 Democrats. Pate attributed the change to Republicans embracing early voting, while overall turnout remained near 2016 levels despite method changes. Iowa electors will meet December 17 to award six Electoral College votes to Trump.
