Regents leader urges UI to join top national research ranks
Iowa City Regents President Bruce Rastetter urged the University of Iowa to become a top 10 national research institution amid a new funding model. Faculty pressed how UI would reach that status while balancing undergrad enrollment and state dollars. He argued the model aligns funds with Iowans’ education and predicted a 4.3 percent rise in state appropriations next year with protections to UI. He noted growth in resident enrollment and cautioned gains depend on expanding the university.
