DHS reverses fiscal decision on Johnson County budget
The Johnson County Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities department may lose funding after the Iowa Department of Human Services reversed a May and June expenditure approval. The state agency said only the state Auditor’s Office could declare expenditures legal, citing a November plan to spend down by 1.35 million from a 10.6 million budget to avoid state cuts. The county auditor’s report shows 897,335 in unallowable expenditures and prepayments, leaving a 1.17 million fund balance above the 10 percent threshold.
