Dohrn Surrenders in Chicago Pleads Innocent

Bernardine Dohrn a former Weather Underground leader and now a waitress and mother turned herself in to a Cook County judge in Chicago. She pleaded innocent to four indictments including aggravated battery and mob action stemming from the 1969 Days of Rage protests joined by William Ayers who was present with their two children.

DSS seeks 22.6 percent budget increase in Iowa

The Iowa Department of Social Services asks for a 22.6 percent boost for 1982 and nearly 10 percent more for 1983. The request totals about 402 million dollars for 1981 82 and 440.6 million for 1982 83 with large increases for aid to dependent children and medical assistance and more than 1 400 new jobs in the correctional division.

The Carter administration warned the Soviet Union that invading Poland would trigger the most serious deterioration in East West and U.S. Soviet relations. Linn jail plan rejected by Iowa Natural Resources Council

The Iowa Natural Resources Council denied Linn County’s request to build a new jail on May’s Island in Cedar Rapids citing floodway restrictions. A council engineer questioned flood flow impacts while Linn officials cited four plans including island stilts and downtown or suburban options.
