Legion Toys Repaired For Christmas Appeal
Approximately 1 000 toys will be rehabilitated by the American Legion with help from social agencies by Christmas. William Dixon chaired the toy committee and reported the effort includes Boy Scouts Camp Fire Girls YMC A and YWCA workers refurbishing items such as Sieds tricycles and dolls. Toys will be distributed by Sunshine Mission to families via the Public Welfare bureau, with a wartime drop in relief creating fewer gifts than last year.

Rall and Ball shaped Cedar Rapids politics in the Twenties
Four-term Cedar Rapids mayor Rall, who faced and outlasted rivals Huston Loftus Roth, overcame defeats and a tuberculosis battle to shape the city’s waterworks sewer plans and building codes. Ball, at 1654 First Ave NE, sought a comeback after illness, advocating expanded terms and salaries, defending the commission form and urging continued public improvements.
