Railroading Art Of Early Days Is Modern Railroader's Hobby
A. R. Swem superintendent of the Cedar Rapids and Iowa City railway collects antique railroad prints and Currier & Ives scenes. His two originals include a Dodge family lithograph once owned by Gen. Grenville Dodge and a Currier and Ives snowbound American Railroad Scene. Swem traces railroading pride from early locomotives to Pacific railroad trestles, noting the headlight as a sign of crew character. His son Edward also pursues glass locomotives and old-time railway cards, while Swem avoids motor truck pictures.
