U.S. Officers Traveled With Egyptian Commandos in Malta Mission
U.S. officials confirmed three American officers flew on a C 130 with Egyptian commandos who boarded the Egyptair hijacked jet. Gen. Robert Wiggin led the U S contingent, but the officers did not take part in the assault and served mainly as moral support. Malta later disputed the account, claiming US officers helped coordinate the operation. The Delta Force was dispatched from Fort Bragg to Sigonella and the Coral Sea provided air cover for the Malta mission.
