16 million year old bones may be ancestor of humans
Remains of an apelike creature 16 to 18 million years old were found in northern Kenya. If real, the fossil could be the common ancestor of humans and great apes or an orangutan line, with bones suggesting a chimpanzee to orangutan size. Researchers led by Alan Walker and Richard Leakey funded by the National Geographic Society call for further specimens.
