Dr. Coffin delivered about 2000 babies at home during his career. After a heart attack eight years earlier he stopped obstetrical work but continued other practice seven days a week when needed. He spent spare time with daughters Helen Hols Betty Miller and four grandchildren in Farmington Iowa. He died and his wife had passed in 1957. He led the Iowa Medical Society in 1956 and remained active in Van Buren and Iowa medical groups. Farmington lies in southeastern Van Buren near the Missouri border.
