Union seeks 3 percent raise for Iowa state workers
AFSCME Council 61 calls for a three percent across the board pay increase for state workers in each of the next two fiscal years. Danny Homan says frontline staff including corrections officers and nurses deserve the higher pay as negotiations open for a two year contract starting July 1. He notes a 300 million budget surplus and criticizes the governor if talks yield a stripped down contract. Two correctional officers have died and he urges wage and grievance provisions beyond base pay.
