Fresh Start for Effigy Mounds Park Leadership

Jim Nepstad will take over as Effigy Mounds National Monument superintendent on January 3. The park, famed for more than 200 Indian burial and effigy mounds, seeks to move past a decade of unauthorized development and restore proper park stewardship. Nepstad, 49, comes from Apostle Islands National Lakeshore and has 25 years with the Park Service.

Branstad Seeks Reopen of State Employee Contract Talks

Gov elect Terry Branstad calls for resuming collective bargaining with state employees to discuss a proposed two year pay freeze. He criticizes Gov Culver for accepting a new contract with wage increases from five to fourteen percent, saying the terms are unsustainable and unfair to taxpayers.
