Downtown Cedar Rapids steam system ends after 117 years
Alliant Energy marks the closure of the downtown Cedar Rapids steam network on December 1 2009 after seven days of work following the 2008 flood. The system built in 1892 supplied heat to hospitals schools and businesses and will be remembered as a backbone of downtown growth. The company thanks customers partners and community leaders for their support and collaboration during recovery and transformation toward new opportunities.
