Iowa expands in home child care registrations and rules
Iowa DHS implements a new law lowering the registration threshold for in home child care providers from seven to six with free optional registration for smaller homes. Providers must complete 12 hours yearly of first aid and child development training, undergo periodic criminal and related checks, and face a two year registration cycle with renewal checks. Smoking is banned in areas accessible to children and registered providers may join federal meal subsidy programs. Existing registrants face renewals guided by DHS to determine their category.
