AP reports in Atlanta that Agri Secretary Bark Bute said federal farm subsidies could be cut by over 600 million in the next bill. He warned reductions may challenge farm incomes, noting 41 House members who voted for the last farm bill might not support new cuts. He cited improved cotton markets and foreign grain sales as factors while stressing policy must not undercut farmers’ livelihoods. Nixon’s cabinet future was also touched upon.
