Frank Carson, 19, of Iowa City, escaped with minor bruises when a plane owned by Paul Shaw made a forced landing on the university golf course late Wednesday afternoon. W Prouty 74 former president of Prouty wholesale grocery company died Wednesday of heart trouble. Confined to home for months his illness became critical in the last days. He was born in Cumberland Ohio and his family moved to Iowa as an infant. His widow a daughter Mrs Mark Johnson of Mankato Minnesota and a son William Des Moines survive.
Defense attorneys in the federal liquor conspiracy case against Tom Dennison and 15 other defendants began final arguments as Dennison, 13, was absent from the courtroom due to pneumonia. His illness comes after eight weeks of trial without missing a day.
Emmett J. Bradshaw of Omaha has been chosen national commander of the Woodmen of the World Life Insurance association, succeeding the late W. A. Fraser at a special session of the sovereign camp in Omaha. Bradshaw has served as attorney for the organization since 1916.
