Marion man wins parking tax case against Iowa
Iowa Supreme Court voided an Iowa Department of Revenue assessment against N F Fritz Sorg of Marion. The ruling said he was not operating a parking lot under the tax law as intended, reversing a 3 percent receipts tax on maintenance payments for a kept lot used by merchants. The decision notes the statute taxes receipts paid to a retailer for services to the ultimate user. On this date in 1944, German forces defeated the Russians at Tannenberg.
