Transgender nurse sues state over discrimination in Iowa
A transgender nurse, Jesse Vroegh, 36, files a civil rights lawsuit against the Iowa Department of Corrections, the Iowa Department of Administrative Services, Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield, and Patti Wachtendorf. He alleges denial of access to men’s restrooms and locker rooms and denial of transition-related health care, claiming violations of the Iowa Civil Rights Act and the Iowa Constitution. The suit follows a right to sue letter after a state civil rights process and parallels national LGBT rights actions.
