The North Liberty City Council, missing from the 2010 city code, weighs reintroducing a 2003 ordinance allowing recreational hunting of geese and deer inside city limits. The Obama administration finalized rules to double the fleetwide average fuel economy for new cars and trucks in 13 years. The standard rises to 54.5 mpg by 2025 from 28.6 mpg at year end, aiming to cut greenhouse gas emissions and fuel use in U. S. showrooms.
National Fish and Wildlife Service data show increases in hunters and anglers across the United States, while Iowa resident hunting licenses fell 13 percent and nonresident sales dropped about 50 percent over five years. Fishing licenses also declined slightly for residents though nonresident sales rose. Iowa officials cite flooding in 2010 2011 and strong interest in the activity as offsetting factors.
The USDA forecast a record 122.2 billion in farm profits for 2012 as higher prices and insurance payments offset crop losses from the worst U.S. drought in five decades. Crops value rises to 222.1 billion while livestock revenue falls slightly to 165.8 billion amid rising costs and widespread disaster declarations.
